Longarm Machine

QUILTING

We are here to help you move your project across the finish line! At Reawaken Quilts, we do edge-to-edge, semi-custom, and custom digital quilting on two Bernina Q-series longarm quilting machines, both mounted on frames and digitally controlled by the Bernina Q-matic system. We will work with you to help you select the combination of batting and quilting design that will help you achieve your vision for your quilt and help you manage your budget.

Edge-to-Edge Quilting

Edge-to-edge quilting is the uniform application of a common quilting pattern across the entire quilt. The designs vary from simple to intricate and serve to add texture and beauty to your creation.

PREPARING YOUR QUILT
  • Reawaken Quilt storage
    1.

Please press your quilt top before you send it to us. It needs to be as ready as possible to be loaded directly onto the frame. It is especially important for you to properly press the seams flat.

    2.

Please carefully mark (note paper and safety pin are preferred) the end of your quilt top that you consider to be the top of your quilt. Also, mark the batting clearly with your name or the name of the quilt.

Please do your best to trim up stray threads on the back of your quilt top. Pay special attention to the dark threads, as they can show up through the lighter fabrics after quilting.

We won't trim your top: if there is any squaring to be done prior to quilting, please take care of it before sending it to us.

We have a wonderful quilt shop close by that stocks a number of wide quilt backs (and lots of regular-sized fabric). Feel free to order your backing there, and we will happily pick it up, saving you the hassle and extra cost of packing up and shipping us a backing.

Please make absolutely sure that your backing is at least 8" longer and 8" wider than your top. We need the extra margin to secure the backing to the frame. Anything less risks a poor result, and we will not proceed if we are not confident that we can deliver exactly what you envisioned for your quilt.

It is important that both your quilt top and quilt backing are squared.

If you are piecing your back, please follow these instructions to ensure the best possible result:

    a. Trim the selvedge from the sides that are to be sewn together. The tighter selvedge is difficult to quilt through; it can distort the quilting and will almost certainly be visible and felt in the finished quilt.
    b. Multiple shorter horizontal seams are preferred to a single longer vertical seam.

We normally stock several types of high-quality batting in rolls, and we can typically save you some money in both batting and shipping costs. Please check the rates page for cost and availability. If we don't have exactly what you are looking for, consider ordering from our local quilt shop, and we can pick it.

If you provide your own batting, please ensure that it is at least 6" wider and 6" longer than your quilt top.

If you are not sure what kind of batting will best serve your quilt, we would be happy to give you any guidance we can.
