Binding services are generally available. If you want to take advantage of our binding attachment service, please prepare your chosen binding in advance and send it with your quilt. Note that we will not bind curved edges. The type of fabric used for the binding should be the same as the material used for the quilt top.
Here are the instructions for preparing your binding:
1. Calculate – to determine the length of binding required, please calculate the perimeter of your quilt and add 12”. Divide this by the width of your chosen binding fabric (normally 42”) and round up – this is the number of strips required. Multiply the number of strips by 2-1/2” (the width of your strips) and divide the result by 36 – this is the number of yards of binding fabric that you need (maybe get a little extra just in case – way better to have a little extra than to not have enough!).
2. Cut – cut the required number of 2-1/2” binding strips across the grain of the fabric (from selvage to selvage) taking care to cut the strips neatly and maintaining parallel edges.
3. Join – lay the ends of two strips together at a 90 deg angle, top side of fabric together, and sew along a diagonal line between the two corners as shown in image A.

Trim away the excess, leaving a ¼” seam allowance (see image B and C).

Open the seam and press – refer to image D. Repeat until all strips have been joined together in one continuous strip.

4. Fold – fold the long strip together, back side together, and press the entire strip in half (image E).

5. Roll – make yourself a “spool” from stiff corrugated cardboard (image F). Attach one end of your pressed binding strip to the spool with masking tape and carefully wind the strip onto the spool. Secure the other end with another piece of masking tape.

All done! Place your prepped binding in with your quilt top and we will take care of the rest!
